Hello all, I am a newbie to the wonderful; yet web consuming life of a Dep56 collector. Recently I came across the North Pole Woods series and liked the overall fun it has. However I have learned that the structures are made of resin and not ceramic or porcelain like most of Dept 56 other collections. I have found a seller online that has 6 of the structure including the Santas Hot Tub which seems to be pretty hard to find and very spendy. In my research I understand this particular collection has been retired so what I find online is it. As a new collector would anyone have advice for me on this collection? is it worth the investment as it is resin? One other thing that I wonder about, is the ability (or lack of) to add on to this collection, it does seem rather limited to its entire overall look. Thank you for any advice

Welcome to the hobby! Indeed, it can become all encompassing but that’s a good thing!
My answer is that it depends on your approach to the hobby. For me, it’s not about investment. For the most part the items I buy won’t hold value and even if they do that value would be to my kids or grandkids. I’m going to enjoy them as long as God allows.
So for me, if it is something I think I would enjoy and it’s within budget, I’ll get it.
Resin is fast becoming a common medium for modeling and wouldn’t bother me one bit.

I have a number of the set. I find its small amount of buildings desirable for vignettes. The liquid in the hot tub globe on mine has turned yellow. I think that's a common occurrence. You can incorporate into North Pole if you want to expand.
